LJ-Sec Tutorial

LJ-SEC HOW TO

MOVING A JOURNAL

I just did it for http://karma-apple.insanejournal.com/ and it worked beautifully.

1) DOWNLOAD LJ-sec, run it.
2) Change the configuration to GJ

3) Login
4) Select the posts you want to move. MAKE SURE TO SELECT FO ENTRIES IF YOU WANT THEM

5) Journal --> repost entries

6) Input your information, make sure to change the interface to IJ (or wherever you are going)

7) Done.

MOVING A COMMUNITY

Follow the above, but before step 3 click 'get subscribed communities'

Choose the one you want to post from.

MOVING TO A COMMUNITY

During step 6 unclick 'backdate entries' and click 'get subscribed communities'

Choose the one you want to post to.

(You can combine these obviously if you are moving from a comm to a comm)

Unfortunately this isn't an error in the program it is an error at GJ. Their database is probably so shot it can't handle the requests anymore :\

I would suggest trying at a different time of the day? That's all the advice I can give you, unfortunately.

Trying to figure it out for you! While I do that, could you possibly take screencaps of the steps you're taking (feel free to block out any passwords and what have you) so I can double check everything?

:D yeah sure, gimme a minute, where do you want me to put the pictures up, does ij have scrapbook i can upload to or should i use tinypic or whats your preferance?

Tinypic would probably work best, IJ doesn't have any sort of scrapbook (yet!)

I tried recreating the scenario with another community and had no problem -- so I joined the one you're trying to move, but can't move it since I don't have posting access. Would you mind adding me (~adarkheartdawns) so I can try and move some posts and see what happens? I'll leave right after the diagnostic, promise :)

You know what, I'm a big dummy. When transferring (http://i44.tinypic.com/9k8f13.jpg), unclick 'preserve metadata' -- its possible the icon set you're using at your comm is not supported at IJ

hang on hang on, do i need to have a GJ as well for this to work? cz i did it for my lj to ij with none, is it different for the community shift?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]sherlock
2009-01-07 02:25 am UTC (link)
no you don't have to have GJ; basically you would follow step 1, 2 (change to livejournal, not greatestjournal), and then skip down to where it says how to move a community.

I tried doing this and I keep getting ther error message:
Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.

An item with the same key has already been added.

I get that occasionally too. Try hitting continue and going on from there. Sometimes it crashes but it almost always works for me to do that.

question: does this make a copy of all your entries to the new journal or just copy them all over?

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]silver_etoile
2009-01-07 03:41 pm UTC (link)
wait. that didn't quite make sense. Is it making a copy of your journal or moving everything completely over?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]sherlock
2009-01-07 03:44 pm UTC (link)
It makes a copy unless you tell it to do otherwise.
