Setting a Site Scheme Cookie with LJ-Login

Tutorial for LJ-Login Sitescheme

Obsolete - you can now download the updated version directly from the maker:
http://ljlogin.e-space.gweep.net/

Some people (including me) are having problems with losing their site scheme when they log out of IJ or restart Firefox. If you're using LJ-Login, I have the fix - if you're not... I don't know what's going on.

0) Turn on your hidden files and folders

-- Open My Computer
-- tools --> folder options --> view --> show hidden files and folders

1) Locate your profile folder:

Windows Vista/XP/2000

C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
or
C:\users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

Windows 95/98/Me

C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\

Linux

~/.mozilla/firefox/xxxxxxxx.default/

Mac OS X

~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/xxxxxxxx.default/

2) Locate your LJ-Login folder:

default folder --> extensions --> {ad4ee9e5-49c7-4589-acf3-db9fa76a95c9} --> chrome

3) Replace ljlogin.jar

Download: http://home.comcast.net/~isentropic/ljlogin.jar and replace the file in your chrome folder with that one.

([info]vanya_elda has further edited this to include scribbld.net in the lj-login; if you'd like that, grab this jar file instead: http://home.comcast.net/~isentropic/ljlogin_scribbld_edit.jar ***be sure to rename to ljlogin.jar after DLing***)

What did I change?

Inside the jar file is a file called LJcode-sites.js which defines the siteschemes for which you can set a permanent cookie. The new beta schemes were not included, so I added the following code:

'ij': {
           name: 'InsaneJournal',
                domain: 'insanejournal.com',
     passmanurl: 'http://www.insanejournal.com',
       cookiere: 'insanejournal\.com$',
      cookiedom: '.insanejournal.com',
      cookieurl: 'http://www.insanejournal.com/',
     cookiename: 'ljmastersession',
   interfaceurl: 'http://www.insanejournal.com/interface/flat',
    siteschemes: {
               'tweak': 'New Tweak',
          'insanelook': 'InsaneLook',
               'anime': 'Insanime',
           'honeycomb': 'Honeycomb Redesigned',
       'honeycomb_old': 'Honeycomb',
                'hand': 'Hand',
              'trails': 'Trails',
               'brown': 'Brown',
               'clean': 'Clean',
            'worksafe': 'Worksafe (Sidebar)',
    'worksafedropdown': 'Worksafe (Dropdown)',
            'dramatic': 'Dramatic (Dropdown)',
     'dramaticsidebar': 'Dramatic (Sidebar)'
			}
},

4) Restart Firefox

5) Set your site cookie

-- Right click lj-login and go to preferences
-- Select Insanejournal, scroll down and choose your site-scheme of choice, 'set site scheme'
-- Done!

And MWAHAHA you've just reminded me that I can just alter the files to make LJLogin work on Scribbld so I can do that and stop my bitching.

Not to be douchey, but since you included my edited jar file, if you could mention that somewhere, that'd be swell.

This would be really fantastic, except... I don't seem to have the files you say I should find. I've searched my computer more than once for "Application Data" and "AppData" and have come up empty-handed. I also don't seem to have an extension folder for LJ-Login, even though it still seems to work for me. :S You wouldn't know what's going on, would you?

Try doing a search for ljlogin.jar. Make sure to do a search for 'all files and folders' and select 'my computer' in case you have multiple drives or something weird going on.

When I do that, all I find is a) the place where I stored the download from this entry and b) the two places I pasted that download, hoping something might work. Before I tried that, I had searched for login.jar in my computer and came up with zero results. So, I'm not sure how I could have this program working in Firefox but not have it exist on my computer. :-?

Okay try this

start --> run --> firefox.exe -ProfileManager

go to 'create profile' --> next --> choose folder

Go look where the default location it gives you is. Mine is under "Firefox" which is under "Mozilla" which is under "Application Data" but maybe yours is elsewhere.

When I run that, it just opens a new firefox window, which loads my homepage. :-S Maybe my computer is just stupid. Thanks a ton for your help, though; you're clearly far more computer-literate than I am.

So it turns out I do have a Profiles folder even though, for some reason I don't know, the Application Data folder is hidden from me (though I can access it through searching). But I still don't know where my LJ login stuff is; inside the Profiles folder is a folder called 3zxy4iy7.default, which inside it has only a Cache folder and two .mfl files.

I finally figured it out! :D I had all those files, but they're hidden (and I'm not sure how to reveal them, to be honest, but I know they're there); I can access them when I search for them. So I was able to make this change, and it works for me now. Thanks a million for your help - if I hadn't tried those other things, I wouldn't have figured out how to search the right way. So it was just a weird thing with my computer; your tutorial still works 100% once you find the files. :)

I've attempted using this (and also attempted editing it to include the new "Monodramatic" themes) but it just won't work. It comes up as something being undefined, a component? I use Firefox 3, not sure if that would be an issue.

The lj-login has been updated for FF3, so you should be able to download directly from the maker's website and get the correct version
